WCC to participate in 79th World Health Assembly
[World Council of Churches] The World Council of Churches’ Commission of the Churches on Health and Healing will send a five-person delegation to participate in the 79th World Health Assembly May 17-23 in Geneva, Switzerland.
The Rev. Stavros Kofinas, moderator of the Commission of the Churches on Health and Healing, will lead the delegation. Delegates will pursue four core objectives: monitoring plenary and committee sessions to track resolutions and decisions affecting the council’s health mandate; strengthening partnerships with global health leaders, civil society networks and faith-based organizations; co-hosting side events; and gathering feedback to inform the commission ahead of meetings scheduled for October.
Held annually, the World Health Assembly is the World Health Organization’s decision-making body. It is attended by delegations from all member states and focuses on a specific health agenda. The main functions of the World Health Assembly are to determine policies, appoint the World Health Organization’s director-general, supervise financial policies and review and approve the proposed program budget.
