Justin Welby concludes tenure as archbishop of Canterbury
[Lambeth Palace] On Jan. 6, his final day as archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Rev. Justin Welby spent the day at his office in Lambeth Palace. He began the day with a service of Morning Prayer, followed by a midday Eucharist and later Evensong. In the evening he attended Compline.
Earlier in the day, he placed his bishop’s crozier on the altar in Lambeth Palace’s chapel, a symbolic act that marked the conclusion of his tenure.
The process for picking a successor now begins, under the leadership of the Crown Nominations Commission.
