[World Council of Churches] The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and its allies have been attacking El-Obeid, a Sudanese city of 500,000 people, with drones since June. The strikes have hit schools, markets, fuel stations, vehicles and transport routes.
El-Obeid Bishop Ismael Gabriel Abudigin said the strikes were killing civilians and causing blackouts and shortages of food, water and fuel.
“It is our prayer that this war stops,” Abudigin said.
At least 45 people were killed in 15 drone strikes between June 6 and June 28, according to the United Nations.
El-Obeid is a key humanitarian and commercial hub for the Kordofan, a region in central Sudan.
