Diocese of Long Island announces 3-candidate bishop slate

[Diocese of Long Island] The Garden City, New York-based Diocese of Long Island’s Joint Oversight Committee announced on Jan. 28 a slate of three candidates to stand for election as the ninth bishop of Long Island.

The candidates are:

We offer deep gratitude for the hard work of the faithful and prayerful Search Committee,” the Joint Oversight Committee said in its announcement. “We rejoice that these candidates have answered God’s call to continue this process of discernment with our diocese.”

The committee also announced that there will be meet-and-greet opportunities for members of the diocese to engage with the candidates. The dates and locations will be announced on the diocesan website.

The committee also announced the start of the petition process by which additional nominees may be added to the final slate. The deadline to submit candidates by petition is Feb. 7.

The bishop election will take place April 18 at the Cathedral of the Incarnation in Garden City.

The next bishop will succeed the Rt. Rev. Lawrence C. Provenzano, who has led the Diocese of Long Island since 2009.
