[World Council of Churches] In the opening event for the global Season of Creation, faith leaders from diverse Christian traditions gathered to reflect on the 2024 theme, “To Hope and Act with Creation,” focusing on humanity’s relationship with nature and the urgent need for environmental justice.
Hosted online and attracting participants from around the world, the event featured prayers, scriptural readings, songs, voices from nature and clear calls to action against ecological sins. The speakers emphasized the moral duty to protect creation and advocate for a just energy transition, urging all to engage in this critical mission.
Observed annually from Sept. 1 to Oct. 4 , the Season of Creation is a time for Christians worldwide to renew their relationship with the creator and all creation through celebration, conversion and commitment. The World Council of Churches plays a key role in organizing and promoting this ecumenical initiative, uniting faith communities in the pursuit of environmental justice.
