Nicaea 2025 conference opens with reflections on unity

[World Council of Churches] More than 130 people gathered in-person and online for the Nicaea 2025 Bossey International Conference Nov. 5-7.

The aim of the conference is to offer an ecumenical perspective on the significance of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, delving into todays significance of Nicaea, focusing not only on its theological heritage but also on its relevance for ecumenical theological education and ecumenical formation. 

The Rev. Kuzipa Nalwamba, World Council of Churches program director for unity, mission and ecumenical formation, explained how the conference signals the commencement of what the WCC has designated as a Special Ecumenical Year, 2025, offering an opportunity to revisit the original impulses that have shaped the common calling as a fellowship of churches.
