Nigeria churches appeal for support as floods strike Maiduguri
[World Council of Churches] Church leaders in northeast Nigeria are appealing for humanitarian support after floods left thousands of people displaced in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. Widespread flooding struck the city on Sept. 9 and worsened in the following days.

According to church officials, the floods have left nearly 40 percent of Maiduguri submerged and over 400,000 people displaced. An estimated one million in the city are affected.
